The massive, 30-room Olympia Fields mansion that disgraced recording artist R. Kelly once owned was listed Wednesday for $3.499 million. The six-bedroom, 21,182-square-foot Olympia Fields mansion was constructed it in 1997. After R. Kelly, another musician, Rudolph Isley, the founding member of the R&B soul group the Isley Brothers, and his wife, Elaine owned it.

After a year of sweeping changes and more controversy, the CPD enters 2024 with a new permanent boss, Larry Snelling, facing a long to-do list. 2023 saw a mix of highs and lows. Hundreds of Palestinian Americans and allies gathered in Bridgeview, also known as “Little Palestine,” in support of Worldwide Call for Strike in Solidarity with Gaza. According to the strike organizers, more than 200 businesses around the Chicago area were closed to show their support.

Firefighters from the Gary, Munster and Merrillville fire departments extinguished a blaze that started Saturday night at Ralph Waldo Emerson High School with no injuries. Opened in 1909, the school's enrollment declined over time and it eventually closed in 2008. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Henry Kissinger, former secretary of state under President Gerald Ford, died Wednesday. He was 100. Kissinger had uncommon influence on foreign policy as the United States exited Vietnam and broke down barriers with China.

Kazakh-owned Tary Coffee House has recently opened in River North. Owner Symbat Zharkynkyzy moved to Chicago from Kazakhistan, where there are 10 locations of Tary Coffee House.
