Shortly after 1:30 a.m., a woman was discovered unresponsive on a CTA train in the first block of East Roosevelt Road. She had suffered lacerations and contusions to the face, and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 2:14 a.m., first responders were called to the Roosevelt Red Line station. Southbound trains were delayed approximately 17 minutes, according to Catherine Hosinski, a CTA spokeswoman.
The circumstances leading up the woman’s injuries were under investigation.
Red, Green and Orange line trains stop at Roosevelt.
Eleven cases of aggravated battery were reported at the Roosevelt L station in 2023, according to city data. Three of these cases involved a knife or another cutting instrument, and four involved a handgun or another dangerous weapon.
The rate of violent crime on the CTA remains above pre-pandemic levels. In the first 11 months of 2023, about 4.7 violent crimes occurred for every million rides on the L.
