Southtowners: Crisis Center lauds Abbott with Masters Award, and more

Frankfort’s Abbott honored by the Crisis Center

Frankfort’s Katie Abbott will be recognized by the Crisis Center for South Suburbia with its Dianne Masters Award at its annual gala Feb. 24. The award was established in 1994 to honor Masters, who founded the Crisis Center as a resource for those experiencing domestic violence.

Abbott was given this year’s award for emulating selflessness, dedication and commitment to the Crisis Center’s mission, according to a release from the organization. She was elected to the Crisis Center for South Suburbia Board of Directors in 2014, was president from 2019-2021 and has been a co-chair of the annual gala for three years, including this year.

Last year, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia provided over 32,000 hours of services and directly impacted over 3,700 domestic violence survivors. The Crisis Center for South Suburbia’s services are free and include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, housing, counseling, advocacy, prevention, and education. District 228′s Boswell earns credential

Jim Boswell, the director of operations and technology for Bremen High School District 228, recently earned the Certified Education Technology Leader designation by passing a rigorous certification exam.

The CETL certification, awarded by the Consortium for School Networking, signifies that Boswell has mastered the knowledge and skills needed to bring 21st Century technology to the district’s K-12 schools and other education organizations, according to a news release.

Homer Glen’s Gallagher honored at UW-Whitewater

Ethan Gallagher, a resident of Homer Glen who is studying business analytics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators for the 2023 fall season. Gallagher played football.
