Interfaith Leaders Association hosting prayer service
The Naperville Interfaith Leaders Association and their partner organizations will hold the 19th annual World Peace Day Interfaith Prayer Service from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave.
Open to the public, “Loving Courageously to Repair a Fractured World” will explore ways to build a more peaceful, just and safe community, event organizers said in a news release.
The interfaith community of Naperville and surrounding areas gather at the beginning of each year to pray for world peace and celebrate the community’s diversity.
Many faiths co-sponsor the free event, including Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Christian Scientists, Buddhist, Unitarian Universalists, Baha’i, Hindu, Sikh, Latter Day Saints and a number of interfaith organizations, the group’s website said.
Magical Starlight Theatre to present ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Magical Starlight Theatre will perform “Beauty and the Beast” based on the Disney film on two weekends in January.
Performance dates include Jan. 12-14 and Jan. 19-21 at Naperville Central High School, 440 W. Aurora Ave.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays Jan. 12 and 19; 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturdays Jan. 13 and 20; and 1:30 p.m. Sundays Jan. 14 and 21.
A sign language interpreter will be present at the 1:30 p.m. Jan. 13 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 shows.

Indivisible Naperville to hold Defending Democracy event
Indivisible Naperville will host a “Defending Democracy” program at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave., to mark the anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol building.
Speakers will include U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, D-Downers Grove, and Hilary Denk on behalf of U.S. Rep Bill Foster, D-Naperville.
Other scheduled speakers are Renato Mariotti, legal analyst for CNN and MSNBC; DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek; and DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Barron, among others.
Video clips from the insurrection will be shown and, weather permitting, participants will assemble outdoors at 2:45 p.m. to stand for justice, accountability and a strong democracy, organizers said.
The event marks the anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, breach on the Capitol building in an effort to stop the peaceful transition of power and overturn the 2020 election results. More than 150 law enforcement officers were injured and five people were killed.
