Antioch man charged after shooting at food-delivery driver, standoff with police, officials say

An Antioch man who fired at a food-delivery driver and was involved in a police standoff over the weekend was ordered held Tuesday at the Lake County jail after authorities filed a petition to detain him.

Travis R. Malott will have his detention hearing Wednesday, Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ruled, as the suspect made his first court appearance.

Malott, 34, of the 1200 block of Main Street, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated discharge after the incident, which started around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Officers responded to several reports of gunshots at the apartments where Malott lives, and after arriving found the delivery driver.

The driver told police that he made a delivery to Malott, and the suspect recognized him from a previous dispute between them.

Malott lifted his shirt to display a handgun, prosecutors said Tuesday, and the driver retreated to his vehicle and drove away. Malott, prosecutor said, fired as many as seven shots at the car. No one was struck by gunfire, police said.

Authorities said Malott retreated to his apartment and was initially noncooperative. Several other police agencies were called in to assist, and officers closed the immediate area for several hours. Malott surrendered at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Antioch police said they recovered two pistols inside.
