Elgin police officer facing child porn charges resigns post
Elgin police Officer Jordan Collins has resigned his job more than three weeks after being arrested on child porn charges.
The Elgin Police Department placed Collins on administrative leave and launched an internal investigation after learning Collins had been charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of reproduction of child pornography by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
Collins, who lives in Kirkland, is being jointly prosecuted by state prosecutors and the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.
“Collins was notified of his scheduled interrogation and chose to tender his resignation rather than participate in the police department’s internal investigation,” Police Chief Ana Lalley said in a news release issued by the city.
The department has notified the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board of Collins’ resignation while under investigation in accordance with state law, the release said.
