Four Chicago Blackhawks prospects and Hinsdale’s Gabe Perreault were named to the U.S. World Junior team Saturday.
Perreault, 18, is the son of Hawks development coach Yanic Perreault.
Perreault is one of 14 forwards selected to the team, along with Hawks prospects Oliver Moore, a first-round draft pick this summer, Gavin Hayes and Frank Nazar III.
Sam Rinzel, one of a trio of 2022 first-rounders along with Nazar and Kevin Korchinski, made the list of eight defensemen.
The IIHF World Junior Championship takes place in Gothenburg, Sweden, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Hawks coach Luke Richardson said he’s keen to see the prospects go against international competition.
“I haven’t even seen Moore on the ice, (but) I actually saw a little bit of the (University of) Minnesota game on TV the other night and I saw him out there at the end of the game preserving a (1-1 tie) against Ohio State,” Richardson said. “He’s out there in important situations, and this is going to be an important tournament for him. He’s a fast skater, so that’s going to be great to see at that tournament because it should be big ice in Sweden.
“I heard he’s an energy guy, whether he plays on a checking line or an offensive line, so it’ll be my first time to really see him play in a big-time game like that.”
