A woman from Blackberry Township is facing aggravated driving under the influence charges following a single-vehicle crash in the township Dec. 30 that injured two children, according to Kane County Sheriff’s officials.
Lisa A. Tegeler, 39, 39W000 block of Herrington Boulevard, has been charged with five counts of aggravated DUI - third violation, five counts of aggravated DUI - great bodily harm, 10 counts of aggravated DUI - bodily harm to child under 16 and two counts of endangering the life or health of a child, along with receiving a number of citations which allege possession of cannabis by a driver, operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, officials said.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. Dec. 30, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 42W000 block of Hughes Road in Blackberry Township for the report of a single-vehicle crash with minor injuries, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a black Honda CRV had driven off the road and was in a ditch with damage, according to the release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda CRV, driven by Tegeler, was westbound on Hughes Road and left the roadway for unknown reasons, officials said. This caused the vehicle to turn on its side and come to a stop in the ditch, according to the release.
The vehicle had two juvenile passengers, ages 7 and 8, who sustained outward bruising, head injuries and lower torso bruising during the crash, officials said in the release. Everyone involved in the crash was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva for treatment, officials said.
The children were treated for their injuries by medical staff and released to family members, according to the release.
